S-3 Mission: Operations plans and coordinates all aspects of operations and training.
This is where you find information about planned events, training, fundraising activity and our detachment calendar. Whatever Operations we have planned or scheduled - you'll find here.

Events

Throughout the year we have a variety of events for members that either take us out into the community, or, bring the community to us.  Our detachment has two particular events we sponsor that are highlights for our members and the community alike:

  Marine Corps  Birthday

10 November is held very close to every Marine's heart.  We take our birthday very serious.  Each 10 November, the Two-Eagles detachment hosts a Marine Corps Birthday celebration at the VFW in Prior Lake. The celebration includes the formal cake-cutting ceremony and reading of the birthday messages, and recognition of the oldest and youngest Marines and prominent Marine Corps speakers. After that, formality goes out the window while we get down to having some fun. There is always some good food available for a goodwill donation (proceeds are donated to the Minneapolis Minnesota Veterans Home) and lots of door prizes. At this event we also conduct the drawing for our annual raffle prizes and make the presentation to our detachment Marine of the Year.  There is no admission charge and the public is always welcome to share in the festivities.

  Veterans Fishing Outing

Our slogan for this event is; "A Bad Day Fishing is Better Than A Good Day Working."  Two-Eagles Detachment sponsors an annual fishing outing for all military veterans. We spend the morning on Prior Lake trying to drown some worms.  Our first outing was Saturday, 23 June 2012 and we have grown this every June since. There is the fishing, but also prizes and lunch, all at no cost to the participants. The Minnesota DNR helps by making this an educational outing so no fishing license is needed so long as it is catch-and-release,  This is a lot of fun with some past, and hopefully ongoing, participants being; Prior Lake Hooksetters fishing club, Prior Lake/Savage High School Fishing Team, VFW, Beyond The Yellow Ribbon South of the River, and more.  Participants can still fish to keep their catch if they have a valid Minnesota fishing license.  We are always looking for partners, sponsors and participants.  If you would like more information regarding the fishing outing, or would like to be added to the email list, click here

  Honor Guard/Color Guard

Every Marine, no, every veteran, is entitled to a ceremonial rifle salute as part of their burial service. Two-Eagles Detachment is honored to provide Honor Guard services. We provide Honor Guards at funerals and burials for Marines, and other veterans, who have gone on the their final duty station. This is done at no cost as we consider it an honor to recognize our brothers and sisters in arms.

We also provide Color Guard services for a variety of veteran-related memorial or commemorative services and functions for an appropriate honorarium. Contact our Detachment via email to inquire or arrange for Honor and/or Color Guard services.

Fundraising

In order to complete the outreach and events that we provide, we need to raise the funds to cover the necessary expenses.  To do this we engage in some fundraising activity.  While donations are always welcome and put to good use, they can be unpredictable.  Throughout the year, Two-Eagles engages in a variety of fundraising activities. The proceeds from these activities are used to fund our Operations, detachment expenses and outreach projects. Some Key fundraising activities include:

  Brat/Hot Dog Sales

At least twice each year we set-up some tables and a grill at different locations, notably Sam's Club in Shakopee. We use this opportunity to sell some dogs, brats and beverages to raise funds. We also distribute literature for veterans benefits and about the Marine Corps League. This is a great opportunity to make connections and promote membership. We also have a lot of fun talking with the public and other veterans.  When you see us, stop by, buy a dog and chat.  Check-out our calendar for scheduled fundraising events.

  Annual Gun Raffle

Annually we conduct a raffle with the drawing completed during our Marine Corps Birthday Ball. Prizes include multiple firearms (typically three long guns), but is a variety of other prizes such as gift cards, apparel and electronics. We keep the number of tickets relatively low to increase the odds of winning for everyone. You need not be present to win.  Tickets may be purchased from any detachment member or by mailing a check in the amount of $10 for each ticket desired, to: Two-Eagles Detachment, Attn: Raffle Tickets, PO Box 302, Savage, MN 55378.
